Hong Kong International Building Materials & Construction Equipment Fair   Hong Kong International Hardware & Home Improvement Fair

Hong Kong International Building Materials & Construction Equipment Fair 2007
  • A record-high of 242 exhibitors showcased their products
  • 7,766 buyers from 113 countries and regions visited the Fair, up 34% over last year
  • Special themed zones: Stone & Marble Zone, Pipes & Ducts Zone, Flooring Zone, Doors & Accessories Zone, Building Ceramics & Sanitary Ware Zone added variety to the Fair

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and CIEC Exhibition Company (HK) Limited (CIEC), the Hong Kong International Building Materials and Construction Equipment Fair was held during 27 - 30 October 2007 at AsiaWorld-Expo. Inaugurated in 2006, the 4-day event grew from strength to strength and has emerged as an important event to industry players who were on the lookout for a broad array of quality building materials and construction equipment.

The growth was fuelled by the robust economic development in China and the Asia-Pacific region, including:
- economic prosperity;
- a rising middle class;
- the growth in tourism;
- the construction projects in the Chinese mainland, including international events such as the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and the Asian Games in Guangzhou in 2010; and
- the significant growth in the exports of Hong Kong’s building products by 7.7% to US$9.5 billion in the first nine months of 2007.
All reinforce Hong Kong as the unrivalled city-to-be in staging the event.

Exhibitors and Buyers from Across the Globe
A record-breaking of 242 exhibitors from six countries and regions participated in the Fair, presenting a wide selection of building materials, building technology, indoor decorative materials, construction equipment and building engineering products and services. Visitors could find products and services from different parts of the world, including Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Belgium, Italy and Indonesia. Some of the well-known companies such as Citygrow Technology Co Ltd, Comtec Technology Asia Ltd, Cosco (J.M) Aluminium Developments Co Ltd. Goldergate Fibreglass Co Ltd, Guangzhou Goodsense Decorative Building Materials Co Ltd, Hangzhou Beach Sanitary Equipment Co Ltd, Hilti (Hong Kong) Ltd, Hongkong Kin Long Construction Hardware (Group) Co Ltd., Kaba Ltd, Qingdao Blue Ocean New High Technology Co Ltd, Xishi Group Development Co Ltd, etc were presented as well.

Visitor attendance was equally encouraging - a total of 7,766 buyers were recorded, equivalent to a double-digit increase of 34% over last year. Among them, 4,038 were from Hong Kong and 3,728 were from 112 overseas countries. The Chinese mainland, the USA and Australia were the top visiting countries, followed by the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and Korea.

In addition, 45 buying missions were organised, bringing in over 1,000 select corporate buyers from key players in the industry. These included buying representatives from Home Depot, ACE, B&Q, Black & Decker, Canadian Tire, Kent Homes, Hammacher Schlemmer, Netshops, Target and Wurth.

Special Themed Zones Adding Variety
Hong Kong International Building Materials and Construction Equipment Fair 2007 spotlighted a diverse range of building products in different themed areas. In addition to last year’s Stone & Marble Zone, Pipes & Ducts Zone, Flooring Zone and Doors & Accessories Zone, a Building Ceramics & Sanitary Ware Zone was launched to add variety and to serve the interests of the diversified buyers. This new zone featured 37 exhibitors from the Chinese mainland, showcasing sanitary ware, shower rooms, shower equipment, sauna rooms, shower heads, basins & accessories, bath tubs & accessories, toilet bowls & accessories, bathroom hardware, polished tiles, anti-slip tiles, mosaic tiles, anti-abrasion tiles, wall tiles and glazed tiles.

More Than just a Fair
Aside from showcasing an array of building materials and construction equipment, the fair also provided a platform for the exchange of market and product information through a series of seminars and open forums held during the fair. Experts from the industry focusing on topics such as “Paradigm Shift – Recent Trends in Procurement, Partnering and Construction Technology and their Effects on the Design and Construction Industry”, “A Fusion of Life Style ad Commercial Popularity” and “Sustainable Development: From Architectural Design to Architectural Products”, presented important knowledge and advice to the audience.

A Show to Look Forward to
Following the success of the event, the HKTDC and CIEC have decided to merge the Hong Kong International Building Materials & Construction Equipment Fair with the Hong Kong International Hardware & Home Improvement Fair to expand the scope of exhibits. The merged fair “"Hong Kong International Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair 2008” will be held at AsiaWorld-Expo from 28-31 October 2008. With the new exhibits of decoration materials, hardware & DIY products, bathroom fittings & sanitary wares, doors/windows & accessories, building technology, safety & security system, building engineering & services, and lawn & yard products, the merged fair will certainly attract more quality exhibitors and buyers and provide a more effective sourcing platform. Be sure not to miss it!

Three other fairs, Hong Kong International Furniture Fair, Eco Expo Asia and Sports Source Asia, will be held concurrently at Asia World-Expo, while Asia’s largest lighting exhibition, Hong Kong International Lighting Fair will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre during 27-30 October 2008 to provide buyers with even more sourcing opportunities.
